Why I Switched to Natural Golf
I played golf recreationally for about twenty years. Back then, it was my second or third sport after tennis (which I played in high school and college) and basketball (I was a long time "gym rat").
When I got married in 1995 and moved to San Diego, my wife liked playing golf, so I made it my primary sport. Over the next five years, I took a number of conventional golf lessons and got my handicap down to an 8. But even with lots of practice, I wasn't able to get much better. I played with a fade that occasionally would turn into a slice. I had trouble hitting a draw without hooking it. My ball striking was too inconsistent.
In 2001, we moved to Hawaii and I became more motivated to improve. I read about Natural Golf and thought it was appealing. Moe Norman had a simpler swing with fewer moving parts which is more reliable. Moe was thought to be the greatest ball striker ever. According to Tiger Woods, Moe was one of two player who "owned" his swing. There are many great stories about Moe Norman. Check out the websites swinglikemoe.com and moenormangolfacademy.com.
The Natural Golf swing is similar to the baseball swing (rotated downward). I played baseball as a kid and thought I could do this better than conventional golf. I took a series of lessons from a certified Natural Golf instructor in Hawaii. I've reduced my handicap to a 4. I still have room for improvement, but this is mostly on the short game - especially putting.
I lowered my handicap by Switching to Natural Golf, and you can too !
